Dear Bethel Family,

We have some items we would like to update you on and get your feedback on.

Freedom Mobile – Cell Phone Tower

Background -Freedom Mobile began installation of their cell phone antenna in February of 2020.  Under the terms of the lease, rental payments of $1,666 per month commenced in March of 2020.  We are pressing them to reconstruct the shroud they installed because it did not meet specifications we had asked for.  This work as been held up due to Covid, however, we are advised they are working on a new design.

At our congregational meetings of Sept 13 and 20, we advised you that we would have the congregation determine use of the Freedom monies which have gone into a designated reserve account.  We have had fund-raisers in the past for these missions but because of COVID, we have not been able to do this.  This has been a regular part of our church life and although we can’t have the fundraiser, we would like to invite you to prayerfully consider contributing as well to this mission work.

Proposal -Leadership is proposing that we disburse $15,000 from the funds accumulated since March, 2020 in the following way:

Mexico: Rocete Missions             $6,000                40%

Thailand: Houmphan Missions     $6,000                40%

Local: Langley Food Bank            $3,000                20%

Voting -We are providing active voting members with 2 options for voting: online (via Survey Monkey) or a paper ballot.  The link for online voting and the paper ballot are both available at the end of this document.

Genuine Learning Academy (GLA)

Background -GLA has been continuing with their school since September.  Our lease with them was renewed for one more year until June, 2021.  They currently pay rent of $1,800 per month, out of which we have to pay some custodial, utility and repair costs, so our net income is less that $1,800 and varies from month to  month.  You may recall at our congregational meetings of September 27, October 4, the congregation approved up to $10,000 towards internet and phone system upgrades within the church.  That work has been completed and has resulted in a huge improvement in our internet and phone capacities.  The work cost much less than $10,000.  At this point, we estimate we have about $6,000 of net GLA revenue available to employ.

Proposal -We have recently discovered that we again have a leaky roof problem over the Administrative Office.  We are proposing that the available $6,000 from GLA be allocated towards that repair work.  The work may cost more, in which case we would use Contingency Fund money with the understanding that it be replenished from future GLA net revenues.  We will have a ballot for you asking for your approval of this approach.

We would also invite you to prayerfully consider contributing to supporting work on the church roof and building.  Our building is aging and we want to be good stewards of the gift that God has given us.

Voting -We are providing active voting members with 2 options for voting: online (via Survey Monkey) or a paper ballot.  The link for online voting and the paper ballot are both available at the end of this document.

May God be with you and your families during these challenging times.  Blessings to you all as we look forward to Christmas and a time of renewal.

In your service,

  Terry Christie
